The three extracts from the student's draft show probklems that the student has within a relatively short stretch of text with the expression Show an increase/decrease.
During the consultation we looked briefly at some typical examples of the expression in use as shown by the following citations:
1 (Fig. 20), cultured pro-T cells showed a 20-fold increase in the expression of low affinity ( 2 ronegative individuals. Table 4 shows a corresponding increase in the prevalence of HCV antib 3 of the children (K.C. and Y.Y.) showed a distinct increase in staining of the larger HDL subc 4 he main culprits. Data for 1990 show an increase in production of sulphur dioxide, a key comp 5 he larger HDL subclass, and all showed an increase in HDL-2 (10-12 nm) relative to the smalle 6 tibody-binding studies have not shown an increase in cell surface HLA-A2 after MA2.l antibody 7 .A. Placebo-formula-fed infants showed an increase in arachidonic acid between 6 and 30 weeks 8 FLAT Study and the Umea Study showed an increase in vascular events among those enrollees w 9 taking the drug. Most patients showed a rapid increase in the number of CD4 lymphocytes, the 10 ems, including asthma, which is showing a rapid increase in incidence in many Western countri 11 ntarctic. All of these sections show a similar positive increase in dl3C during the 200 kyr i 12 the research. Other disciplines showing a steady increase in international collaboration are 13 roup, the high-frequency groups showed a substantial increase in both the excitatory postsyna 14 hed grassland. Both experiments show a decrease in evaporation l--16 mm month-1 in ref. 19 (f 15 ns of the fetuses they produced showed a marked decrease in the outgrowths from nerve cells a 16 genic mice expressing IgM alone show a more marked decrease in lysozyme binding which is dire 17 . If your graphs and charts are showing an overall decrease in weight, then you know you are 18 n technique. Expression of Lox2 showed a relative decrease in the most posterior ganglia betw 19 0 per cent polyester underpants showed a significant decrease in the proportion of potent to 20 t layer the B89-1 data does not show a substantial decrease of gaseous nitric acid. The first extract from the draft shows a problem with the transitivity of the expression, the student attempting a passive construction. The second and third extracts show problems with the collocating verb, have, and give being used instead of show. In that context, give does collocate with decrease/increase, but with the meaning of 'cause', 'lead to' rather than 'exhibit', 'demonstrate'.
21 adding antibody to the assay only gave a modest increase. Figure 2b shows the results of expe 22 2 per cent in UVB, which in turn gives an increase of between 2 and 4 per cent in the incide 23 oint out that their climate model gives an overall temperature increase of 4.8 degrees C for 24 en irradiation, which have so far given at most a twofold increase in Jc at 77 K (in thin fil |
