Downloading BNC or ANC word lists
These are zipped word lists made using WordSmith Tools. They won't open up in Excel, Word, Acrobat reader, etc. but can be read & understood by WordSmith Tools. If you want a paper or Excel copy, you can use WordSmith and then save as Excel, text, etc within WordSmith.
They are word lists, not the full BNC or ANC corpora!
To use
a. download, saving it to your hard disk, e.g in c:\temp
b. unzip it (click here if you need Winzip). Inside there is the word list.
c. start WordSmith and use the WordList tool to open c:\temp\BNC_World.lst or c:\temp\BNC_index_2-5-word clusters.lst.
64-bit WordSmith versions
These are versions newly made with WordSmith 8 (64bits). (All the 32-bit versions listed furher down below can be loaded into WordSmith 8 (32bit), then exported as text and easily imported into WS8 (64bit)).

wordlist of ANC corpus (Open ANC 14m word corpus, 1.9MB zipped and 9MB unzipped, made in 2012 using WS6)
BNC World edition for use with WS4 or greater
wordlist of whole corpus (100m word corpus, 4MB zipped and 14MB unzipped)
2-5 word clusters of whole corpus (43 MB zipped and full size is 191MB, WS5)
BNC XML edition for use with WS7 or WS8 (32bits)
All of these are zipped, all show dispersion statistic.
